First things First

Mrs Landy’s 2nd grade class at ECS had a special reason to celebrate yesterday. These kids banded together to bless their little classmate, Kayla, who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. The 17 kids in this class have seen and shared in quite a bit of hardship over the past several years, but have also had the chance to see the Lord bless, redeem and keep hearts close to Him. With Kayla’s illness, we knew it would be no different.

Kayla’s leukemia has affected her spleen, which causes her glucose levels to spike. Principal and long-time HFH volunteer Cathy Short had a fantastic idea – a quick pre-Halloween class party so Kayla could share costumes and treats with her class! We gathered at the Horrocks home (close to ECS Ridgelake) and played, decorated pumpkins, and enjoyed Kayla. Everyone brought a healthy/sugar free treat to share. Kayla was showered with love and gifts! And Kayla’s mom even brought treat bags for the whole class, with handmade tags on them! Yet another case of blessing and being blessed. Even two of our 7th graders jumped in and helped with the little kids. Love the body of Christ!

Habitat for Hope is partnering with ECS in serving the Wilsons, and thankfully the Wilsons have hit it off quickly with our newest staff family, the Dovers. Josiah Dover and Kayla share the same diagnosis, so these two families have a ton in common. Several of our volunteers have also fallen in love with the Wilsons – they are easy to love!

Today, we are grateful for an incredibly special school community, and for the Lord’s grace, mercy and love toward all of us. Please keep praying for Kayla as she continues through her course of treatment.
