Thank you Winstead Farms!

Seems that trees grow rapidly – and it recently became apparent that the bermuda grass front yard at the HFH House wasn’t holding up. Bermuda grass needs lots of sun, and we’ve got an increasing amount of shade on our property! Over the past couple of days, we’ve had groups such as the Lausanne Collegate School 7th grade class come out to help us deconstruct the yard. And today, we received new zoysia sod from Winstead Turf Farms/Stockyard - and it was 95% donated! Thank you Winstead Farms, and thank you Andy, Tucker, Mark and all of our volunteers for helping us complete this project!

Bits and Pieces – HFH Partner Profile

Several years ago, Mary Abraham met Susan Brown through her son, Thom Abraham. Susan’s husband Mike was a fan of Thom’s sports radio show, The Thom Abraham Show. Sadly, the Browns had lost their oldest daughter Rachel to Leukemia several years ago. The Abrahams and the Browns began to share stories, and Susan learned of Mary’s grandaughter Bella’s diagnosis of stage III Melanoma, and subsequently the founding of Habitat for Hope.

Over the past few years, Susan has donated horse tack and supplies to Habitat for Hope through her shop, Bits and Pieces. She will frequently put packages together for Mary to bring to Tennessee when she visits.  The kids that ride horses at HFH are always excited to see what might be coming with Mary from North Fort Myers!

We are so grateful for Susan’s continued involvement in Habitat for Hope and donations to our horse riders! If you are located in the Fort Myers area, please remember to shop at Bits and Pieces – they carry a great line of horse gear and rider accessories as well as a wide selection of consignment saddles and clothes.

Congratulations LeBonheur Children’s Hospital!

We are so excited for our friends, families and the staff of LeBonheur Children’s Hospital – today they begin moving patients into their brand-new, $340 million dollar facility. Located on the corner of Dunlap and Poplar in Memphis, the tower is visible throughout the city, further implanting LeBonheur into the hearts and minds of the residents in this city.

Our staff and volunteers are so grateful to be included in this process over the next two days by helping families pack up their rooms and move their belongings to their room in the new building. This can be quite a process – we hope to assist families and make this move fun and easy. We’ve been amazed at the impeccable planning process that the administrators and staff have created to move current families safely and carefully to the new facility.

Many Congratulations to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital staff! We are excited to serve alongside you.
