Village Center

My next few posts will highlight different portions of the Master Plan – first up is the Village Center.

The Village Center will serve as the hub for the activities, amenities, and services for the families Habitat for Hope serves.  This area will be composed of a variety of structures loosely arranged around a centralized Village Green.  A few of the key structures include:

•The Community Building will serve as a large indoor gathering area and will include dining and meeting space, a library, craft room, and theater.

•The Village Inn will be run as a bed and breakfast for guests of the families on site.

•The Office/Conference Buildings will be used by Habitat for Hope staff and provide offices for parents staying on the site.

•The Barn will serve as a indoor recreation area and workshop.

•The Bunkhouse will provide on site housing for workgroups.

•The playground area and the Village Green will serve as outdoor recreation areas for both children and adults.

•The Gallery will educate visitors about Habitat for Hope and the process of the Barn Raising Project.

•The Community Garden will provide fresh food for families staying on site and will be a place family members can enjoy gardening together.

•The Health Pavilion will be a full fitness center and yoga studio.

Haven of Rest

Trust

I titled this post “trust” because when things just don’t go as we have planned them – what can we do but trust? Some of you may already know that the Horrockses were in a car wreck in Jacksonville, FL today. It involved a tractor-trailer on I10, and we are incredibly grateful we are to God for his protection! Thankfully, we are all OK…but we were towing a trailer full of donated items for HFH. As it stands right now, we have an option for storage at Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Jacksonville, but we are trying to determine whether we will be able to “pick up” the items anytime soon. If any of you are traveling toward Memphis from this area, and have access to a trailer and are willing to help, please email Mark and let him know!

We would ask you to pray in the following ways:

  1. That God would be glorified in this situation!
  2. For our sweet daughter Bella, as she is very shaken and upset (but not injured) by this wreck.
  3. For God to provide our needs as we get the car fixed (it had been donated for us to use as a family car for HFH) or have to replace it.

Thank you so much for lifting us up in this way!

A dream becomes reality

Many of you know that we have been following God as he opens doors and leads us to develop the HFH property in Shelby Forest, TN. Amazingly, we have been gifted help in the areas of zoning, topography mapping, landscaping, architecture and design. After a year and a half of work, we are so thrilled to unveil the final rendering of the development concept.

Huge thanks go out to volunteer Lance Jackson, former volunteer turned full-time staff member Tucker Davis, Fisher & Arnold, Looney Ricks & Kiss, Tony Pelliciotti, Jessica King, and our Family Advisory Board for their hours of labor and commitment to this project. We have miles to go before we sleep, but in God’s timing we will see the project to completion!

Wondering why God goes quiet sometimes

We dont usually link to other sites from here, but a friend shared this today and I really loved it. From prodigal Jon at the Stuff Christians Like blog (very funny posts!):
