Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your Hope in God, for I will praise Him, my Savior and my God.
- Psalm 42:5
Habitat for Hope has been a guiding light in the midst of some the darkest times of our life. They have truly shown God's love and served Him through serving others. They have become part of our family and cared for our needs while away from home."
-Julie, mom of Westin, Neuroblastoma patient
We know all too well the pain and emotional burden you are carrying right now as you internalize the fact that your child is seriously ill. For some of you, this means a surgery, a course of treatment, and hopefully a remission. For others of you, you will deal with the reality of a life-long treatment plan and care for your child.
We can help. Habitat for Hope works to bring hope in the midst of pain by building relationship and treating your family like our family. This means that our home and the facilities of the HFH property are open and available to your family at all times, and that we are only a phone call away. We organize mom’s and dad’s nights out to offer a break from the stress of doctor’s appointments. We offer horseback riding lessons for siblings of patients that need a little diversion. We can provide meals and housing support for you and your extended family if you are in the Memphis area away from home. We have professional photographers who would love to do a photo shoot of you and your family free of charge. We have loaner vehicles if you are in the area without transportation. We can also help with financial needs that fit into our qualifications. We also have individuals who volunteer in different areas of the country, and to date, have helped families from over 13 different children’s hospitals.
HFH has ministered to us in so many ways. In a time that we faced another open heart surgery for Benjamin Mark and Mylissa took us into their home and poured out the love of Jesus with us. They provided a place for our son and his Dad to stay as I was in the hospital with our new baby...10 days later. Benjamin is doing much better now, but now we have had a financial need arise and HFH has stepped in and provided a way for me to stay home with our kids. Mark and Mylissa have come alongside us when we were weak and worn and has found a way for us to be restored. They are the hands and feet of Jesus.
-Charlene, mom of Benjamin, heart and Asperger’s syndrome patient
Twice a month we offer a time of worship and fellowship at the HFH House. A meal is provided, and we gather for singing and scripture reading. The children have an opportunity to play and do a craft. You will get to know all of our staff and volunteers and count them as family too. These times have become known as an oasis in the desert – a time when tears can be shed, questions can be answered, and you are always among friends.
